The Question
Where can you extend compassion to yourself and to others? (Note that’s an and not an or. Answer for both.)
The Intention
Gentleness
The Meditative Moment
Notice your self-talk today. We can be so hard on ourselves. There’s a place for being self-aware enough to be critical, but often we say things to ourselves that we would never say to someone else. If you find yourself slipping into rude, mean, or unhelpful self-talk, pause. Take a breath. Then think of something you love about yourself. In addition to this, before you go to sleep tonight, list five things you love about yourself.
Bonus: If you notice yourself being particularly harsh about someone else today, pause. Take a breath. List something you love about that person, even if it’s the cashier at the grocery store. You don’t have to declare your love openly, but soften your gaze toward them. Imagine a thread from your heart to theirs, connecting you. Send a kind thought down that thread to their heart.
