Thin Space No. 37: Lengthen Your Exhale

The Question

How’s your breath today?

The Intention

Focus

The Meditative Moment

Take some time today to sit or lay down and focus on your breath. Notice how the air feels as it enters your nostrils. Is it cool or warm? Dry or moist? Are your breaths short and in your chest? Or are you drawing them into your belly? Are the inhales and exhales the same length or is one longer than the other? After your initial observations—without judgment—can you slow your breath down? Inhale for a count of four and exhale for a count of six. When we focus on and lengthen our exhales, we tell our bodies to slow down, to rest, to settle.
